Coasters work great when you are rearranging your furniture or simply moving things out of the way so that you can clean better. Another great thing about them is you don’t need any help to use them. Coasters are normally used on things with legs like a couch, table, recliner and things like that. Just know that when using coasters you should put one under each leg so that you are not carrying any part of the furniture yourself. Just remember that a furniture coaster only works on carpet so if you don’t have carpet then this might not be the selection for you.
Hand Trucks – Another popular furniture dolly is a hand truck. Hand trucks are normally used when people are moving because they are more stable and they can go up and down stairs. If you have something that has to be moved up or down a flight of stairs then a hand truck might be the best option for you. Just know that a hand truck is normally more expensive than other types of furniture dollies so if you don’t need it that much then look into renting one.
Standard Furniture Dolly – This is simply a device with wheels that goes underneath the furniture in order to help you roll it around. The reason these standard dollies are used instead of a hand truck is because some items cannot be tilted and therefore they have to be moved in a perfectly upright position. The trick with a standard furniture dolly is that you have to tilt the piece of furniture backwards just a little bit to get the small dolly underneath that particular item.
As you can see there are 3 different types of dollies that you can use so make sure you get the right one. My advice would be to buy coasters and the standard furniture dolly because those can be used for many different things time and time again. Being that the coasters and the hand truck are very simple to use and don’t require much explanation I want to give you a few tips on how to properly use a standard furniture dolly.
Tips On Using A Standard Furniture Dolly
Steady Your Item – The first thing you always need to do is steady the item you are going to be moving prior to moving it. What I mean by this is you should be able to leave the piece of furniture untouched on the top of the furniture dolly without it falling over. If you can do this then it is steady and you can begin to move it.
Take Your Time – Another tip is to simply take your time. When you are in a rush the regular dolly will not work because you will try to push too fast and this will most likely cause the furniture to flip over. My advice is to make sure you have enough time to do the move and if not then wait for another time.
Use 2 People – One other very important tip is to always use at least 2 people. The reason why you need to use 2 people when using a standard furniture dolly is because they require somebody in the front and the back when moving them. If you are trying to do everything on your own then you will have a problem with the piece of furniture tipping over from time to time.
